DWARKA :- Saptapuri and City of Moksha. Nearby Places
5th  January 2012 :- Here we come on the second last day of the city which grants universe’s most precious thing that is Moksha. This day was great as it was Vaikuntha Ekadashi on that day ( best ekadashi considered by many saints ) and we were in Lord’s place itself. We all had kept fast on this day and our plan was to visit the place where actually Lord Dwarkadhish stayed. And also visit that place where Mahadeva’s jyotirlinga is present in the form of Nageshwara. Also I will  show some places which I bet not many among all devotees and tourists who visit Dwarka must not have explored. Jay Dwarkadhish……………….
Dear Ghumakkars and viewers who have gone to Dwarka before, please check  it for yourself whether you have visited these places, where I have gone in this post apart from famous ones. Jay Dwarkadhish……………….
Let me start with what I did on 5th January. Early morning I woke up at 5.30 am went to bath and by 6.00 am I rushed towards temple , my family members still sleeping and getting up. The reason was to view Mangala Aarti of Lord Dwarkadhish. The Mangala Aarti of Lord has greatest importance and there is lot of rush even on normal days.So to pick my favourite spot from where I can have full view of Lord Dwarkadhish and his aarti I need go atleast half an hour before.Jay Dwarkadhish……………….

Jay Dwarkadhish :- Dwarkadhish Temple

The Aarti starts at 7.00 am and before that all devotees wait and sing for the Lord in queues. This whole marvelous experience, the loud songs of devotees specially ladies , the wait for Lord’s Glimpse is all very sweet and mind blowing. At sharp 7.00am the curtains open we get to see Lord.

Travel :- Dwarka is around 230 kms from Somnath by road NH8E. There is no other means of transport apart from road and there is one way to go there. The whole road is besides sea and you will rejoice travelling by this road NH8E . Between Somnath and Dwarka comes Porbander city around 130 kms from Somnath, the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi.Jay Somnath…………………
The whole road is fantastic apart from few streches. The whole journey will be airy besides sea , wind moves and you will find lot of windmills from Suzlon energy. There may be many means to go from Somnath to Dwarka , but as far as I know. You can go by a ) Luxury bus b) Gujarat State Transport c) private cars.Jay Somnath…………….

3rd January 2012, Tuesday.  :- Hi folks and fellow ghumakkars welcome once again on my Trip to Lord Somnath . Today I will cover places to visit in Somnath. It is said that Prabhas Khestra is the place of union between Lord Krishna ( Vishnu ) and Lord Shiva……Jay Somnath……..

Jay Somnath :- Somnath temple in the morning
SOMNATH , PRABHAS KSHETRA :- In Skanda Purana, there is a whole Khand describing importance of Prabhas Kshetra and Somnath Shivalinga. In that part Lord Shiva describes that Prabhas Kshetra was one of the supreme centres of pilgrimage and capable of liberating all types of sins. Lord Shiva has manifested himself in form of linga called Somnath. The whole world is originated from it and merges into it at time of deluge. Skanda purana also mentions that there are around 5 crore Shivalingas submerged in ocean around Prabhas kshetra.Jay Somnath………

Let me tell you something about Guru Gorakhnath.
Gorakhanath was an 11th to 12th century  Hindu nath yogi, connected to Shaivism as one of the two most important disciples of Guru Matsyendranath. The Nath Tradition underwent its greatest expansion during the time of Gorakhanath. He produced a number of writings, scriptures and even today is considered the greatest of the Naths. In his life he did lot of miracles just to teach real spiritualism and bhakti.
For more information please go through :- www.gorakhnath.org
Guru Gorakhnath Temple :- Upon the sacred height at GIRNAR there are many temples . The hill consists of 5 principal peaks, the highest of which, with an altitude of 3,666 feet, is associated with the name of Gorakhnath. Above the shrine of Amba Mata there is another three feet square, dedicated to the great disciple of Guru  Matsyendrandth. It is said that Devi Parvati, in search ofLord  Siva, dwelt at Girnar, and that she continued to sing the praises of her Lord, until  at this spot, he finally showed himself to her. In the  legends Girnar is represented as a noted place of resort and a favourite haunt of Gorakhnath. He used to stay here and his dhuni still exists.

The Great Mount Girnar

Girnar Mountain :- can you see temples at the top ?????
1st January 2012 :- It was new year and I was supposed to climb the great Girnar (9999 large steps). There was lot of excitement when inquired about the climb many said it would take around 10 hours to reach Lord Dattatreya temple and come back. According to plan we were about to wake at 5.00 am and start our climb at 6.00 am. But as usual we got delayed as we were tired with train journey and sight seeing of Junagadh previous day. Also after climbing up and down the Girnar we were going to have our feet and legs paining . Our goal was to reach Lord Dattatreya temple which was farthest from the ground point ( 9999 steps). First place to come while climbing was Jain temples and then Amba Mata temple and then climb down a lit bit and up again to Guru Gorakhnath Temple and again downwards and upwards to Lord Dattatreya and back……………………
First of all let me describe about Girnar Mountain and its relevance.

Junagadh :- An ancient historic & religious city in Gujarat

Mount Girnar from distance. Jain Temples can be seen.

Junagadh Jain Temples on Mount Girnar
Last year when we visited Somnath our train Saurashtra mail reached Junagadh at around 13.30 hours. From there we had a view of Great Mountain Girnar. This one is considered one of the holiest places in India as Naga Sadhus who meditate in Himalayas come down at foothills of Girnar to celebrate Mahashivaratri at Bhavnath temple. Immediately it came to mind that I completely missed Junagadh from my trip .
So this year when we again planned to Somnath and Dwarka I decided to add Junagadh and Girnar in front of itinerary.

30th  & 31st December :- We started from Mumbai in Saurashtra Mail from Mumbai Central and reached Junagadh aty 13.40 hours . The journey was extremely fascinating with extreme cold. Morning at 7.50 when Surendranagar station came we had special gujarati nasta called faafdaas and tea.

While traveling in train it was cold.My daughter Aarya sleeping covered with jacket and two pullovers under.

Myself in Train
Our room was booked in Prerna Dham at Girnar Taleti ( Foothills of Mount Girnar), 5 kms from main city Junagadh. Immediately after having bath we decided to go for sight seeing as time was less and next day we had to climb the Great Mountain Girnar ( 9999 steps).
Before going on actual tour I would like to describe something about Junagadh
Junagadh :- Junagdh is ancient historic city in Gujarat with lot of legends, eyecatching monuments , temples, ruling history, interesting places and attractive places. The monuments and temples are built since Rulers and legends and now are major tourist attractions. It is a major district in Saurashtra, located around 100 km from Rajkot and easily accessible by road and rail.
By the time of Independence , Junagadh was ruled by Nawab who wanted it to adjoin Pakistan , but India invaded it through troops and then Nawab fled to Pakistan . Then voting was carried out in which 80% was in India’s favour hence Junagdh became part of Saurashtra.
Lakhs of tourist all across the world come to Junagadh on festivals and occasions. Its has history for every religion and every sect. Hence its very important site for all devotees of all religions. Two main festivals celebrated here are “Girnar Parikrama” (Held in October-November during the period of five days concluding on the full-moon day of Kartik Month) and “Maha Shivratri” (Held in February-March on the No-Moon-day of Magha Month) every year.
Junagadh has produced lots of saints in its long history, the most prominent being gujarati poet Narsinh Mehta.
The city was ruled by lot of Rulers and their Dynasties including Maurya, Kalinga,Greeks,Shaka, Kshatrapa,Gupta,Chudasama,Chavada,MuslimRulers,Mughals,ADNawabs of Babi Dynasty from 319 BC to 1948 AD.
Local sight seeing :- Around 3.00 pm we started for Local Sight seeing with Ashok Shilalekh and Sakkarbaug Zoo.

Aarya on Ashok Shilalekh

Ashok Rock Edicts.
Ashoka’s Shilalekh :- belongs to around 250 BC where around 14 edicts of Ashoka are located on the route to the  Girnar Hills. This Shilalekh (rock edict)  is a huge stone and the carving in Brahmi script in Pali language mention the resistance to greed and animal sacrifice and also moralize the principles of purity of thought, secularism in thinking, kindness and gratitude.

Skeletons in Zoo Left - Lion, Middle - tiger , Right - Tiger

Skeletons - Crocodile and Turtle

Leopards
Sakkarbaugh Zoo :- The Sakkarbaug zoo is the oldest zoo in Gujarat , is home to the famous Gir lions, tigers and leopards. This zoo was started up in 1863 AD by the Nawab, to save the Asiatic lion from extinction. Besides lions, there are also tigers, leopards, bears, jackals, wild ass, snakes and birds. An open zoo has also been developed over 500 acres of land. Now it’s the leading breeding centre for the Asiatic Lion. Lions in other zoos in Asia are sent from this zoo.

For me he is the most beautiful animal in the planet

Watching him was really a treat

Narsinh Mehta no choro
Narsinh Mehta No Choro :- Narsinh Mehta was great devotee, saint and poet belonging to Gujarat in Junagadh. He was very poor but great devotee and totally self surrendered himself to lord. He was very much harassed by his bhabhi for being poor. After much harassment left home in frustration and went to Lord Shiva temple and started meditating. After 2 and half days lord Shiva gave him darshan and showed him Raas Leela performed by Lord Krishna and gopis in Vrindavan. He was much obliged as he had seen the ultimate truth and after that he went to his bhabhi and touched his feet because of her he had this  darshan. And this is also the place where he used to take assemblies. He wrote lot of devotional songs in gujarati sung by Mahatma Gandhi. Even Morari Bapu in his Ram Katha many times takes his legend.

Mahabat Maqbara first

Mahabat Maqbara second one

Mahabat Maqbara with family
Mahabat Makbara :- This is the place where the last ruling Nawabs were buried. This is not to be missed any how and great piece of architecture.

Maa Vageshwari Temple

Maa Vaageshwari
Mata Vageshwari and Mata Gayatri Temples :- These both temples are on the way to Girnar mountain.

Damodar Kund Temple

Damodar Kunda and Girnar Hill
Damodar Kund :- This is a sacred bathing water tank. Close to Damodara Kund is Revati Kund. It is said that Revata left Dwarka and moved near Girnar Hill after his daughter, Revati, married Lord Balarama.
Damodar Temple :- Lord Krishna’s great grandson Vajranabha built this temple north of Damodar kunda.
Mujkund Caves :- These are caves near damodar temple where Lord Krishna slayed Kaalyavan through King Mujkund, famous story in Bhagvata Purana.

Bhavnath Temple Entrance

Bhavnath Mahadeva
Bhavnath Temple :- This Lord Shiva Temple is very pious and considered as important as any of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It is situated right on the foothills of Girnar. I don’t know about its legend but on Mahashivaratri day Naga Sadhus who meditate in Himalayas come here to celebrate this festival. Even Morari Bapu the famous saint celebrates Mahashivaratri here. Hence this was first one on my wish list. I some how got photo of this great shivalinga.

Another Shivalinga in Bhavnath temple for doing pooja for devotees

Prerna Dham Ashram has large spaces like this to do satsangs

Sonali walking in Prerna Dham with stick used for climbing Girnar
Prerna Dham :- This is the place where I stayed. It was not actually a hotel or Dharamshala, but a huge ashram of Guru Lalbappa. Fantastic place a must visit.
This was sight seeing which I managed in Junagadh , which I feel is only ¼ of total  places. It requires atleast 2 and half full days for local sight seeing . So plan according to that.
Just for your reference these are places to visit in Junagadh
Girnar, Ashok Shilalek, Sakkarbaug Zoo ,Wild Museum , Makabara ,Jain Derasar, Narsinh Mehta no Choro ,Upper Kot,Darbar Hall Museum, Gayatri Mandir and Vagheshwari Mandir, Sonapur, Damodar Kund ,Damodarji Temple Dataar Hills ,Science Museum, Wellington Dam ,Moti Baug, Mujkund Caves , Ayurvedic Museum, Narsinh Mehta, Lake Bahauddin College, Kesar Keri (Mangoes)Shri Swaminarayana Mandir ,Swami Vivekananda Vinay Mandir, Swaminarayan Akshardham Mandir (Aksharvadi).
